Consultant Anaesthesia & Perioperative Medicine
Lifestyle Medicine Physician
Dr Shyamala Moganasundram has worked in the NHS for over 25 years as a Consultant Anaesthetist in paediatric intensive care, cardiac anaesthesia and peri-operative medicine. She is a GMC Specialist registered doctor and a Fellow of the Royal College of Anesthetists. She also holds an honours degree in Psychology from the University of Bristol and a Diploma in Lifestyle Medicine.
Working at the Evelina Children’s Hospital at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust she has seen first-hand the devastating effects that poor health and chronic illness has had on her patients and their families, friends and loved ones. Her ongoing commitment to medicine and the desire for people to be well and lead happy, healthy, long lives has led her to extend her remit to include Lifestyle Medicine, an evidence-based medical speciality.
At the Jonathan Britto Clinic Shyamala applies the principles of Lifestyle Medicine to the preparation for, and recovery from, surgical procedures – her bespoke “Prepare and Repair” programmes – with evidence for successful outcome. These principles have been extended to independent, mentored, programmes for healthy longevity, in the areas of ‘EAT’, ‘MOVE’, ‘REVIVE’ and ‘SLEEP’ for the living of a longer “healthspan”.
A LIFESTYLE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
Dr Shyamala Moganasundram is one of just a few qualified Lifestyle Medicine doctors in the UK and is leading the way in establishing this practice both in the peri-operative setting and as part of a holistic approach to healthy longevity.
In addition to her busy clinical practice, she regularly lectures and teaches on the subject of Lifestyle Medicine to undergraduates and to qualified doctors. Shyamala is active in researching the impact of Lifestyle Medicine in children preparing for and recovering from surgery.
At the Jonathan Britto clinic, Shyamala sees patients with a range of health concerns, offering the management of individual problems like metabolic, cardiovascular, skin or peri-menopausal health, and comprehensive plans for healthy longevity – a ‘longer healthspan’.
She also works closely with Jonathan ensuring all patients are offered a peri-operative lifestyle plan to enhance their surgery, recovery and results. This is ‘Prepare and Repair’, an holistic approach to combine health and well-being in appearance: from outside-to-in and from inside-to-out!

Jonathan Britto
For many years now, despite very fulfilling work at the coalface of acute medicine, I have been increasingly interested in preventing chronic ill health. My commitment to medicine for all has led me to join the pioneering first wave of UK diplomate physicians in Lifestyle Medicine.
Lifestyle Medicine focuses on the root causes of poor health, which we now know from medical and scientific research, can prevent and reverse these conditions leading to us feeling better, looking better and living better for longer.
