Browlift Surgery | Jonathan Britto Clinic

Browlift surgery begins with careful analysis of facial anatomy, function, proportion and the changes that matter to the individual patient.

At the Jonathan Britto Clinic, the emphasis is on evidence-based excellence, layer-by-layer analysis and a natural result that remains individual to the patient. Here are ten of the questions people commonly ask when researching this procedure in London.

1. What is a browlift and what can it improve?

A browlift, also called a forehead lift, repositions and reshapes the brow and forehead tissues. It may have both functional benefit, by unloading a heavy upper eyelid, and aesthetic benefit, by restoring a more open and balanced upper face. The brow is influenced by skin, muscle, soft tissue, bone, eyelids and hairline, so Jonathan approaches browlift with a layer-by-layer analysis rather than simply raising the eyebrows.

2. How do I know if I need a browlift or upper blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty principally addresses excess skin and tissue of the upper eyelid, while a browlift addresses the position of the brow and forehead. A descended brow can itself load the upper eyelid and create apparent hooding. Some patients need one procedure, while others benefit from a carefully planned combination. The analysis phase identifies where the heaviness originates.

3. Can a browlift help hooded or heavy upper eyelids?

Yes, when brow descent contributes to the heaviness. A low brow can reduce visible upper eyelid show and may cause some patients to recruit their forehead muscles to help keep the eyes open. Where true excess eyelid skin is also present, upper blepharoplasty may be considered alongside browlift.

4. What is the difference between a browlift and a temple lift?

A browlift considers the forehead and brow more comprehensively, while a temple lift is usually focused on the lateral, or outer, brow. The correct approach depends on brow shape, hairline, forehead anatomy and the pattern of descent. The operation should fit the individual anatomy, not the other way around.

5. Will a browlift make me look surprised or unnatural?

A natural browlift should not create an over-elevated or permanently surprised expression. The aim is to restore balance and ease while respecting the differences in natural brow position between individuals. Brow shape, orbital anatomy, hairline and upper eyelid relationship are all considered so that the result belongs to your face.

6. Which browlift technique is best for me?

There is no single best technique for every patient. Hairline position, forehead height, brow shape, soft tissue quality, previous surgery and the degree of correction required all influence planning. Jonathan’s treatment plan follows detailed analysis rather than selecting a technique before understanding the face.

7. Can neuromodulators replace a surgical browlift?

Neuromodulators can alter the balance of muscles around the brow and may produce a modest, temporary elevation in selected patients. It cannot reproduce the structural repositioning and longevity achieved by surgery when established brow descent is present. The least invasive treatment capable of meeting the patient’s aims is considered.

8. How long is recovery after browlift surgery?

Recovery varies with the technique and whether other procedures are combined. Swelling, bruising, tightness and temporary changes in sensation may occur initially. Jonathan’s browlift surgery is commonly performed with ‘Twilight’ conscious sedation as daycase surgery. The visible result progressively settles, with stability generally expected at around six weeks.

9. Where are browlift scars?

Incision position depends on the technique, hairline and individual anatomy. Incisions may be placed within or around the hair-bearing scalp or temple, with the aim of making scars as discreet as possible. Scar behaviour varies between patients and is discussed carefully during planning.

10. How long do browlift results last?

A browlift provides a long-lasting change in brow position, but it does not stop biological ageing. The tissues continue to change with time. It is best understood as restoring the brow to a more appropriate anatomical position, from which the face continues to age naturally.

Your journey begins with a conversation. Let us take the first step together.

The journey begins with the analysis phase, which is your opportunity to get to know us and our opportunity to welcome you, inform you and understand what you want to achieve.

There will be information that you want from us and information that we need from you. The more complete and comprehensive this is, the better the results will be.

We aim to build trust so that we can be open with each other about your goals, the indications for treatment and the alternatives available. This allows you to carefully consider the balance of risks, responsibilities, recovery and expected outcomes.

As part of our holistic philosophy, we will also offer you a complimentary lifestyle medical plan called Prepare and Repair. This includes guidance on how to optimise your health before surgery and support your recovery afterwards.
