What is lip augmentation?

Lip Fillers for reshape, ‘boost’, revitalisation and augmentation are a popular non-surgical treatment for women and men. Not just for volume, in the hands of a skilled medical professional, this treatment can refresh dehydrated lips, restore natural volume in ageing lips and define shape and contour.

In our world of social media and celebrity, lip Fillers have become synonymous with poor aesthetic practice. The ‘trout pout’ is a phrase often coined to describe over filled lips and if you can spot it, it is definitely not one of our patients!

Perfect Lips are all about the proportion and distribution of volume in the right part of the lip. When planning a lip filler treatment, we consider the anatomy of the lip, the ratios of the face, and the hydration of the tissues to achieve a naturally beautiful enhancement.

Subtle volume increase and shape enhancement are common requests at the Jonathan Britto Clinic and most of our patients don’t want to look like they have had their lips ‘done’.

Lip balance and asymmetry can be corrected with our ‘light touch’ technique. Jonathan’s surgical background in cleft lip and craniofacial analysis means that his inherent drive is to restore that youthful, soft, hydrated plumpness that says ‘healthy soft lip’ – which is also irresistibly attractive!

“While I often get asked if my first love is surgery, I get enormous satisfaction from the results I achieve when sculpting lips. Now with enhanced surgical options also available for patients, lip fillers offer the most nuanced solutions for natural lip enhancement. To place the right amount of the right product in precisely the right anatomical place creates a bespoke pair of lips. It is a treatment that perfectly balances the other facial features. Small nuanced treatments can give big changes of confidence. Our patients say they feel more attractive and love the fact that nobody knows what they have done!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hyaluronic Acid filler

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring constituent of many tissues of the body and is involved with hydration and lubrication of the soft tissue matrix by binding with water. The synthetic version of hyaluronic acid that is used in dermal fillers is laboratory refined.

Over the many years HA gels have been used in aesthetic medicine they have a proven safety profile. The medical grade fillers come in a variety of different gel consistencies, and they are used for different purposes clinically. Lip fillers are at the softer end of the scale, and can be used for shape, hydration, and volumisation.

What is the recovery time of a lip augmentation by filler?

The recovery period of a lip augmentation by filler varies. by the amount of product injected and the patient’s personal sensitivity. Some patients leave with minimal swelling and can comfortably return to work and home life immediately. Others can have more noticeable signs of swelling and sometimes bruising. While this is rare it would be best to plan this procedure in a time when a short period of recovery could be taken if required.

How long will the effects of lip filler last?

The effects of Hyaluronic Lip fillers vary from patient to patient with some retaining product for a longer time than others. The effect of the filler upon shape comfort and volume is a highly personal estimation. It is true that after a few treatments over several months, ‘optimum lip’ correction can be achieved followed with infrequent maintenance injections and  only infrequent maintenance injections are required.

The hyaluronic gel naturally breaks down and this process will be dependent on the metabolic processes of the body. The effects can last six to ten months before treatment is repeated.

How safe are lip fillers?

Safety with facial fillers, including lip fillers is a function of the quality of the product, and the clinical skill and environment of the team.
At the jonathan britto clinic, we use the highest-grade hyaluronic acid fillers from certified suppliers and complete regular audits, generating statistical data on safety and quality of treatments. This gives our patients the reassurance they are being looked after safely.

Jonathan enjoys the technical aspects of lip and facial filler treatments, and conducts them with the same professionalism, skills, and commitment as he does his surgical practice.

Filler treatments change the internal physiology of the lip, the pressure within the lip, and the blood supply to the lip. The majority of the risks from this treatment therefore arise from poor injecting techniques that may cause permanent damage. It is crucial to seek treatment by experienced medical professionals to avoid complications.

Will lip fillers affect how I smile talk, and will I be able to feel the filler?

The right product, correctly placed will ensure that there is no restriction or limitation on smiling or talking other than to demonstrate the quality of the beautiful lip. Lip fillers will have no effect on smiling or talking other than to demonstrate the quality of the beautiful lip.

Immediately after the treatment, the lips may look and feel temporarily swollen. The higher consistency gel fillers which are used for shape and volume may initially be felt. This soon subsides, and neither you nor a partner will be able to feel the filler.

Does Lip Fillers hurt?

In the hands of a skilled injector lip fillers are a tolerable treatment with minimal discomfort. Patients pain thresholds vary and for those who are less tolerant we can numb the lips with topical cream before the treatment to make the treatment even more comfortable.

As with all injectables, injection technique plays a big part in the comfort of this treatment along with using the highest quality needles. Many of the products we use contain a local anaesthetic so as the treatment progresses it becomes even more tolerable. It is extremely rare for any of our patients to comment that they have felt ‘pain’. Of course, we all appreciate a hand to hold!

How much does it cost?

Filler treatments are charged according to the desired result and the type of filler used, not by the amount of filler to achieve the desired result. A full quote will be given prior to the procedure which is never undertaken on the same day as the assessment consultation.
